The fabric in this well made Hmong skirt is woven of home-grown hemp, hand-spliced and home-woven in tabby (14 x 10 th/cm). The skirt is sewn together by hand of two fabric panels, and a waist band. The upper panel is dyed with indigo without patterns, the lower one is dyed with indigo batik, The appliqué is made of commercial cotton. Both panels are heavily pleated with chain stitches on the upper panel, as well as remaining regular stitches on the lower panel. The waist is held together with a colored woved ribbon. The skirt contains approx. 14 meters fabric.
