The textile term bhangara in Nepal, literally means Cannabis (bhang) textile. It is made of home-grown hemp and woven in a warp faced tabby (14 x 7 th/cm). The colored warp stripes are of commercial cotton yarn. Nepali bhangara cloths are hand-sewn with rustic stitches, from four strips of handmade hemp fabric. The multi-purpose bhangara serves citizens of high elevations as a protective mantle or cape by day, a handy sling for returning home with hay and firewood, and bedding by night.
