A charming rustic bag of home-grown and hand spun hemp, woven in basket weave (7 x 7 th/cm), formed by every other thread being indo-dyed yarn and every other undyed. The base panels has been hand-sewn together of 2 narrow fabric widths. Then edged with a red commercial cotton fabric. The shoulder strap is made of indigo-dyed hemp yarn, also acts as a border on the side and has been sewn down its entire length. The lower corners have been provided with twisted 2-strand hemp yarn, one of which has been provided with pom-poms made of colored synthetic yarn. The striking basket weave technique although rare is shared by Buyi weavers in southeastern Yunnan.
